COMMISSIONER FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMENDS GOVERNOR OKOWA FOR HIS CONTINUOUS SUPPORT FOR SCIENCE IN DELTA STATE.

Delta state commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Matthew Tsekiri has commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his continuous support towards promoting science and technology in the state.

The commissioner stated that at the National level there is the 774 Young Nigeria Presidential Award (774-YOUNSPA) an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology conducted annually aimed at encouraging and developing the interest of Nigerian youths in the Science and Technology sector.

He further stated that the initiative equally was to produce a pool of dedicated Scientists and Technologists with the capacity to compete internationally and to re-orientate the citizenry towards accepting Science and Technology as a way of life.

Honorable Matthew Tsekiri said that to replicate the laudable goal at the state level, the best science student from the twenty-five (25) local government Area and ten (10) private schools competed for a compulsory test in mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry.

He further reiterated that the best science student that would emerge after the rigorous mental test will win laurel and further represent in Abuja.

At the conclusion of the test competition, AKPETI EBOSELUMEN emerge 1st with a total of 164 points. While AKANDE TOLULOPE ADEBOYE of Peniel Academy Boji-Boji Owa Ika North east clinged the 2nd position with a total of 163 point.

The third position went to AMUCHEAZI AKAJIUGO of James Hope College, Agbor with 150 points. A total number of thirty-four (34) schools participated in the science competition. Different gift items were presented to the winners for their academic prowess, while their school and teachers were commended for their efforts.

It was disclosed that the final state for the fourth edition will be held in Abuja from 1st to 3rd March 2020 at the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology Head Quarter.

Present during the science competition is the director of ICT Mr Rocky Ighoyota, Director of Science and Technology department (STD) Mrs Nkechi Chukwurah, amongst other staff.
